OK - no idea how to post images on the forum so if anyone is realy bored I've put a few pics up on the web for anyone to look at.

When I bought it it hadn't seen a coat of wax since new (judging by the dead paint) had a damaged front lip and steel rims with ropey tyres and plastic trims - enough dirt and mud inside to level out my lawn and in general very scruffy. There was half a field hanging on the underside of the car - serves me right for buying something owned by a mature farm worker.

But then again for £1700 what did I expect for a 1997 R plate 2 owner car with full VAG history and 88K on the clock.

So Far

Found Alloys for £80 with 4 almost new tyres - they are on
New Front lip from VW £30
2 bottles of T-cut and 1 bottle of wax (£5)
Set of Rubber mats for the floors
Finally the partners Personal plate gets somewhere to live (saving me £20 a year in retention charges)

Anyway heres the link

http://www.photobox.co.uk/public/detail ... bum=646655

Just select slideshow seems to be the best way to view them

Please feel free to comment

I know she's as tall as a bus and they are 13' inch alloys and she's never gonna qualify as Phat but I'm very pleased with the look......

Plan next is clear indicators and side repeaters - not sure about the back lights have to see - don't like the lexus type ones at all - clear would be preferance or all red (do 6n2 ones fit?) and a ickle spoiler for the tailgate -

I quite fancy colour coding the front grill but it might ruin the cheery face

Good idea to change the indicators and repeaters. I'd leave the grill black as well btw.

As for the rear lights, consider getting the all black ones, or the Mk5 ones; they will fit with a couple of hours work...

I like MK4's

Remove All badges from the back

Remove Side Strips

Colour Code the Door Handles

Clear front Indicators and Side Repeaters

MK5 Polo All-Red Rear Lights

Seat Ibiza Chin-Spoiler

Colour Code the Washer Jets (white in your case!)

(cost so far = not a lot!)

Kamai Mesh Grille

Eibach -35mm Lowering Springs

(cost so far = £200 more than before, still not a lot)

Result = Proper Nice MK4

Damn, I might create a sticky: How to make a MK4 look cool

hahahahahahahah

Seriously though, she's looking fine. Seems like a decent enough price too!

How do you do that? - Post a pic I mean as opposed to a link to one elsewhere that only appears as a web address......

I'm definately gonna do the clear thing front and side - curious as to why not colour code the grill - I mean it looks like a domestic appliance already

Rear lights I'm not sure about the red ones but am sure they will look better than the current ones with orange corners but clear might be better on a white one provided I can get a set that aren't lexus type - have to see what comes up.

Black or smoked would have to be mathced at the front IMHO or it would look daft....

Anyone know how much 6n2 read clusters are?

I like MK2's too.......

Half the badges gone already

Round here you need door strips if you want the door to stay dint free - might consider colour coding them but they'll have to stay.....

Door handles I can go with that

Clear Indicators - thats for sure

Rear lights I need to see a white one before I make up my mind

Washer jets colour coded.... hmmmm I'll think about that

Mesh grill - again I'll have to see a few first - not keen on the local trend of mesh stuffed in every avaliable visible orifice by all the saxo/nova/corsa & fiesta lads

Lowering - If I can do it without wrecking the ride quality (bit of a General Belgrano now anyway) and changing the dampers it's a possibility but I think a roll bar might be more beneficial to handling and a set of new bushes

What I need to look at as a priority is a bit of improvements to it's breathing as it's a bit asmatic compared to my 1.3 Coupe S

- smoother - yes
- more economical - for sure

but quicker it definately isn't seems to gasp past 4000 or be held back not sure if exhaust or inlet is whats needed......

Does anyone "chip" the ECU's - (NOT a poxy resistor across the AFM or AMMU though)

Enough for now I think

Thanks - I'm very pleased with the progress - Norfolk to Southampton and back to pick up the wheels averaged 44.3mpg (418miles from the tank) expected slightly better from Fuel injection but like I said earlier - she seems a bit asmatic and thats never good for mpg

I agree, you can do so much for so little.

You can post pics using the IMG tags. It should look like this:

Code: Select all

Right, to make it smaller you'll need a tool like Paintshop or Photoshop. There's no option in the forum software to do this for you unfortunately.

Oh, and see here for signature size limits.

Thanks!
