Hi all,
First post and all that.
A bit about me to start with. Some of you may recognise my username from other VAG boards. Basically I bought a new mk4 Golf GTI Turbo in January 2001, had it for 6 years. That ended up fairly modified, then I got married and had a baby. Golf was sawpped for a Renault Scenic that lasted two years then I had to get back into a fast VAG, Scenic changed for a 06 plate Octavia VRS (Mrs car). This has now gone as part of a capital realisation programme and we now have a x plate 1.4 16v SE Polo. I also have a 57 plate Passat 2.0TDI Sport DSG that I run as a company car.
Few little issues with the Polo, firstly the front door lock just spins. VW tell me there is a repair kit available and I'm picking it up at lunchtime. Can anyone tell me how easy it is to fit?
Secondly, the cup holder is stuck and the face plate has come off. How do I remove this unit.
Thirdly and finally (for now!) it has central locking but can I make it remote fairly cheaply and easily?
Thanks in advance
Matt

Re: Help out a newbie?
hi mate, I might help about some .
regarding the lock I have just changed mine a few weeks ago. It got jammed in locking position and I had to force it back, breaking some pieces inside. It would be better if you remove the handle and then the lock to see what you have broken and then buy them from a breakers yard, you will spend much less for a few nifty metal pieces (I broke 3 pieces in mine). It isn't the easiest thing to do and you need both steady hands when putting all together because of the spring. I had to disassemble the other lock to follow on it.
I am not sure about this but the cup holder should be removed by undoing two torx nuts from underneath.
for the central locking there are some keyless entry systems from RClick : http://www.rclick.co.uk/index.php?cPath=50
according to some on this forum it is quite easy to set up, some could help you better on this.
goodluck

Hi and welcome, right cup
holder mine was the same till I pulled it and it came off in my hands :-/. Maybe a lupo double cup holder is a better replacement.
Can't help
on the lock I'm afraid
Remote central locking is easy and costs £30 from www.rclick.net with two fobs i suggest the be replica flip key
it's pretty easy to fit too there are numerous guides on here as to how to do it I can even messag you the guide aswell if you like ?. Deliver only take 2-3 days aswell.
Maybe once you have remote central locking you can delock it to save buying the repair kit ?.

Re: Help out a newbie?
Thaks for that got a picture of ETKA from the dealers as to how the lock goes back together.
One other question, what other mods are available for the car? I'll probably keep an eye of for the GTI grill and lip spoiler, possibly lower it and stick on a set of 15s. What is the best size wheel to go for? What options were available on it originally - auto lights/wipers? Air con, etc Can any of these be retro fitted?
Thanks in advance.
