Is this normal?

Post by aaronon »

Now this could well be very normal :D

The Polo is my first car and I never really let it get to high revs (as I feel a bit sorry for it :S).

Anyway tonight I was in first gear accelerating up to 40,000 revs and went into second and the car kind of subtly jumped for a second while in second gear before it settled into steady.

It's like when learners are in first gear and it jumps. . .well it was like that except it was much less harsh.

Is it just me being a tardo changing gears?. . or is it normal :)

probably just because you didnt keep accelerating as you were, it just slowed down quicker than normal :)

Do you mean when it slows down and jolts a bit first? As it might be because you released your clutch too early without applying any gas. Kinda like when you use engine breaking when you change into second gear when you go around 30-40 mph and it kinda slows right down and jolts forward.

Cheers, I don't know what engine braking is :S

I accelerate in first to 40,000 revs then take my foot off the as, move to second then accelerate again but it takes like 5 stutters for the ride to smoothen out.

at 40'000 revs it probably would jolt or blow up, but i think you mean 4'000 revs, sounds like with it being a small engine its struggling to match revs to the new gear quickly, this is not a problem on the bigger engined tdi's and gti, only more common on smaller engines

lol. 4,000 Revs  :D

Thanks. . .I was thinking maybe a spark plug had died.

That's what I see when I google.

I really should learn not to google.
