led, making sidelights short circit... help meeeeee

Post by red6n2 »

ok so as youve probably realised im crap with car electronics and today i thought id undergo the simple task of changing the bulbs to l.e.d. ones in my halo rings on my angel eyes and...

...jesus what a ball ache that was, ive done one side fine but the other keeps blowing my parking fuse out and i have absolutely no idea why... im going to leave it till next week as i have absolutely no idea what to do with it, unless one of the bulbs has its metal strip touching something it shouldnt therefore short circiting it all... but to fix that id have to have like 20 fuses and test each bulb one at a time witch would take ages pretty safe to say i am confused.com

:?

any one got any suggestions ?!?

ensure you are not pushing the bulb too far into the bulb holder or around the wrong way. LEDs are polarised, so MUST be fitted around the correct way to function whatsoever.

by the way you have posted this topic twice - delete the other one ;)

my bad... i blame my very slow laptop :|

hmmm i will try again tomorrow then not pushing them in so far, as for the wrong way around thing i did notice the metal strips on the led bulb were the other way round than the original bulbs but the drivers side works fine so i dont see that one being an issue,

an led placed the wrong way wont blow the fuse though will it ? it should just not work till corrected... right ?

As it's blowing the parking light fuses wich are 5amp if I put a 10amp fuse in could this potentially solve the problem or Is that me being stupid and just looking for an easy solution ?.

Leds draw very little current. That's a shortcut solution but could cause a fire!

Hmmm think I will steer clear of that option then lol. Man... :( car electrics are beyond me, I really don't understand them, the only other thing I can think of is some thing is making the connections between the live and neutral meet therefore blowing the fuse straight away everytime. But that still dosent narrow it down to a bulb or a bulb holder problem.

i havent tried that... i will tomorrow but im guessing they will be fine cause the side that is now ok blew its fuse once then it was ok its judt the drivers side is blowing its parking fuse everytime i turn the sidelights on... tommorrow im going to take all the led's out see if the fuse is ok then and if it is the one by one test each bulb and if thats ok least then i can put it down to a bulb carrier... i bought 25 mini 5amp fuses today so i have some to spare if they blow :D
