Howdy,
I've just fitted my double din Alpine head unit into my 2007 Polo (after £60's worth of freaking harness adapters, arerial adapters and amplifiers!!), it appears to be on a perminent live, when I take the key out of the ignition I have to manually switch the stereo off?
Does this always happen, is there something I need to do to make it switch off with the key?
Thanks in advance
Callum

Re: Aftermarket Stereo question?
Yeah, it's the same for all aftermarket stereos. Does your head unit have a detatchable face plate? If it does you only have to take that off and then you are sorted.
I don't know if you've noticed but, when you turn off your engine and take your key out, the ceiling lights don't come on unless you take your headunit out and then they come on.

Mine doesn't have a detachable face on it, and yeah I did notice the lights don't go on until you turn the stereo off and you can't lock the car either!
Thanks for the info.

Re: Aftermarket Stereo question?
Don't aftermarket head units have both a switched and a permanent live? If it does it should just require wiring into a suitable switched live point. Maybe these wires need swapping over or something? I seem to remember something about having to swap red and yellow wires to get aftermarket stereos working with the ignition... not sure how accurate that is though.
Re: Aftermarket Stereo question?
As said above, just switch the red and yellow wires
Re: Aftermarket Stereo question?
I already tried that, didn't make any difference apart from the 'lights on' buzzer didn't work when it was the wrong way round!Gillen wrote:As said above, just switch the red and yellow wires

Re: Aftermarket Stereo question?
just take a switched live some somewhere
the cig lighter positive works!
take note though, theire are two, one switched for ignition, and one switched for illumination
so just tap into the ignition live!
hope this helps

Nice one, cheers chap.
I wasn't sure if there was just a straight forward mod, before I got cutting & splicing into wires!
Thanks for all the help
