Colour coding bump strips on the cheap :)
Alright Folks... I've put this off for far too long. I've always wanted to have colour coded bump strips but for whatever reason told myself it was too hard and it would never happen. I'm going to do it myself. I've got some questions though (apologies if i sound completely useless)
How do you remove the bump strips?
What grade of sand paper should I use to sand them down?
How many coats of primer, paint and lacquer?
Are the colour coded door handles (the ones that came factory fitted) slightly different to the bog standard black E model ones?

i would love to do this too, providing the strips can be taken out and put back in.
the door handles iv seen which are colour coded are de-locked and dont come with the key slot, but there could be others. you could try colour coding them yourself

why not just mask around the bump strips and spray? that's what I usually see them do on other forums.
and make sure you use plastic primer not common primer

For those of us living in the UK without a garage, the weather doesn't always permit you to do such things on the driveway. I'd much rather remove them and do them indoors where I can spend all the time I want on them trying to get as good a finish as possible.
Why sacrifice the overall finish just because it's a little bit difficult to remove them?

because I have my doubts if the strips are re-fittable or not after being removednigelelliott394 wrote:Why sacrifice the overall finish just because it's a little bit difficult to remove them?

they are but there hard to remove without stressing the plastic so its not worth taking them off

very easy to remove, just foam tape holding them on. the stuff is a b***h to clean off thou. u need a special dremel attachment to clean it off the paint. u can then take them in and spray them. make sure you take a lot of care in de texturing the strips to get a decent finish. to re attach just buy more tape off ebay
