Found a Coolant Leak - Polo GTI

Post by POLOZ »

Well the drama started 2 weeks ago with the coolant warning light on the dash and couldn't find the leak inside the engine bay. But forgot to look underneath the car :$

Anyhow out with a mission today I found the leak on the passenger side. Bascially it was dripping slowly through the undertray. So out came the tools and took the undertray off and found the leak as shown in the image:

I am not sure what pipe it is :S

Although the car is still under warranty so will be on the phone to VW now to get her booked in.

But would like to know what sort of pipe is it?

Thanks

its to the rad mate - warranty will cover it

seems to be a common problem with them!

mine was replaced about 3 months after i picked up the car!

whilst your under there check if your gearbox is leaking too - they are a bugger for that too lol

Well I actually did check that also and found Oil stain around the gear box area. Am not sure if I am looking at the right place but see if you can make out something out of the images below:

yepp thats the right place matey!

get them to look at that too!

have you found your gears crunch into 2nd yet?

either need syncros replacing - or more common is the gearbox oil recall - they didnt make it public but they do know about it, so ask them about it whilst your down there!

According to my Manual, the car was recalled for gearbox oil change back in 2008. By looking at the image do you recon it has/is being leaking? About the gear changing there doesn't seem to be any crunching noise because I know they had changed the syncro mesh in all the 2007 models (could be wrong) but at times it does feel hard during change

Might need to check that with mine. Ive been finding its loosing coolant lately :( is it just a loose connection or will it require a new bit of pipe??

I took it to VW last year when it was in warranty and only leaking a little and funnily enough they didn't find a problem. They were probably hoping to get me back once it was out and rape me on the price!
Sad to hear this :( I took it to dealers last week and I told them where the leak was coming from so they couldn't **** me about
But amazingly they found the problem with the radiator as it was corroded at the bottom. So getting it changed this week :)
