1.2 needs cranking twice to start when cold

Post by crappe_coupe »

Recently my cars needed 2 cranks to start first thing in the morning.

A coilpack failed 3 weeks ago and i finally changed the others 2 days ago (genuine vw parts) thinking tired coilpacks may be to blame. However it made no difference.
The car cranks over at normal speed so confident its not a dud battery.
The car runs fine once started, although ocaasionally sounds a little rough for the first 5 seconds. So i'm confident its not skipped a tooth on timing chain.

Having had a friend who needed to change a coolant sender on her 3 cyliner 1.2 ibiza for acsimilar problem i'm leaning towards a coolant temp sender. Although, temp guage is fine.

Before i change it i was wondering if people agreed with my conclusion or had any other suggestions. In the past i've checked temp senders with a multimeter but havent found any resistence figures at different engine temps for the 9n. If anyone's got any i'd be very grateful if you could put them up.

Thanks, P
