The (original) battery on my 2002 Polo E let me down at 1.00 am on Christmas morning, when the temperature was -11 or more. The car is garaged when not in use so had not previously been exposed to such a low temperature. Could the battery failure be, at least in part, due to the extremely low temperature? I put it on trickle charge for about six hours later in the day, and it then started without any problem. However, having been let down once, I don't feel that I can trust it in future. What would be the best replacement, bearing in mind the age of the car? I shall keep the car until finally expires.
Also, the seat-belt warning/reminder light now stays on indefinitely. Why might this be, and what can I do about it?

New battery required, its failed once and 8 years ain't bad, get a battery to the same spec as that fitted or better, at least 4 year warranty. Just because the weather is getting a little warmer don't think the battery is probably ok, another cold spell and you'll be taking the bus again! Get your alternator output and drive belt checked also, normal alternator output should be around 14 to 14.4 volts or so.
