Hello guys,
asked a friend of mine about this problem and she says its called 'pinking' or the timing is out.
I have a stage 1 revo mapped gti that has had its cambelt done.
Sometimes ( i dont know wether its just because my windows have been up and i havent heard) but under hard acceleration when boosting i can hear a tapping/nocking noise, like something metal rattling around. this is sort of around 3k revs. has anyone had this problem before?? ive heard pinking was more of a problem with older cars?.
any help is appreciated, matt
Possible pinking problem, help?!?

Re: Possible pinking problem, help?!?
pinging
Knocking (also called knock, detonation, spark knock, pinging or pinking) in spark-ignition internal combustion engines occurs when combustion of the air/fuel mixture in the cylinder starts off correctly in response to ignition by the spark plug, but one or more pockets of air/fuel mixture explode outside the envelope of the normal combustion front. The fuel-air charge is meant to be ignited by the spark plug only, and at a precise time in the piston's stroke cycle. The peak of the combustion process no longer occurs at the optimum moment for the four-stroke cycle. The shock wave creates the characteristic metallic "pinging" sound, and cylinder pressure increases dramatically. Effects of engine knocking range from inconsequential to completely destructive. It should not be confused with pre-ignition (also discussed in this article).
Get timing checked as it seems to have been off, the revo mapping is free from pinging

What fuel are you running in it? Running it on 95ron can cause knock if mapped to run on 99ron.
I would get this looked asap
Someone who is good with vag-com should be able to check for knock on the 9n3 polo.

I'm running it on shell vpower, so shouldnt be a problem there :sJoshGTI wrote:What fuel are you running in it? Running it on 95ron can cause knock if mapped to run on 99ron.

No sweat
Here, we pay extra per litre for the highest pump octane being 95, do you get 99 on pump there?
