Original VW Sports Suspension

Post by AJ_7 »

When configuring a Polo on the German VW website, you can select a 'Sports Suspension' option which susposedly gives a more firm ride and lowering of 15mm. Firstly, is this just the suspension from the GTi? Secondly, does anyone know if anything like this could be retrofitted in the UK at a main dealer?

Regards,

Alex

One might assume its the same suspension as the gti but I could be wrong. I have an almost new set (2700km) taken from my gti just sitting in a box if you want them cheap. I don't know what they retail for but I'd need to post them from Oz.

That's very tempting :) The only issue I have would be getting them fitted. I know a lot of garages wouldn't fit parts you've supplied as they'd be held jointly responsible if something happened. I'll see if anyone else offers feedback on my original post but I would be interested in buying yours if I could get them fitted and the price was right, although I know shipping them from Australia may not even prove cost effective in the end :D

Edit: As a matter of interest, do the springs have four white and two green paint marks on?

It's no different to getting aftermarket springs installed as I did with my H&R springs. You just need to get a specialist suspension shop to install them.

I'll check the springs tomorrow for the markings ok.

cheers.

These is indeed the suspension fitted to the GTI. I specified this on my Polo in Switzerland - it was about the cheapest add-on on the list at about £80 extra...

Thanks for your reply mate. I'm going to go with the VW Sports Springs which will lower the car between 25 and 30mm. As seen here:

Part Number: 6R0071677A
Price: 151 EUR

Get the H&R springs, they lower the car to a perfect stance. The sports springs wont drop the car enough for it to look good :)

For the sake of 10mm I'd rather keep everything OEM and not have any quibbles in terms of my warranty. I'm not going for the slammed look I just merely want to reduce the suzuki vitara rear :) Also, the VW Sports Springs lower the car 30mm all around, so it actually drops the front of the car more than the 25/40 H&R's. I've seen a standard Polo with the vw sports suspension and I actually favour those over the H&R's personally.

Whiisstt, these actually do sound pretty good then. Well i havent really lost out on the warrenty side cause my dealer is dead on with the springs in and say everything will be sound if there is a problem :) Hope the springs go well for you, hate seeing polos which look like monster trucks :L

I'm not 100% sure. My car is due for servicing soon so I was going to give my dealer a ring prior to booking my service to find out if they could fit these at the same time. You can purchase them online and as they are a OEM part, they would fit them at a dealer anyway, even if they can't source the parts themselves :)

Not on the uk system I checked today.

Would you have to tell the insurance about these?

It will only void your warranty if VW can prove that the aftermarket springs caused damage to the warranty replaced part of the vehicle.

If you don't want the slammed look, it's beyond me why anyone would want to drop the car more than 25 at the front anyway. If you are going to drive this car like it should be driven, you should not go lower than than 25 at the front. My gti has the H&R springs and I've teared up the windy roads on the outer mountains of Melbourne and even on the hard turns I still get the slightest rubbing and it makes me cringe but the lowered height of the car just looks so right.

See my white 6r gti in the below post.

Fair points you make, but, mine isn't a GTi :) So a 30mm drop all around wouldn't be an issue I don't think. If it's an aftermarket installment by Volkswagen themselves, then I very much doubt that there would be serious issues. I'm not a rice boy either, I won't be taking my 'slammed' Polo round the nearest retail park :)

Why are VW UK so reluctant to help? Rang two dealers today, neither of which can source the parts which are widely available in Germany (even on www.vw.de) and offered as a factory option in Germany. Upon asking the question if I sourced the parts myself, would they fit them? Would they chuff. Looks like it's gonna have to be an aftermarket jobbie...
