Advice needed with Idle

Post by POLOZ »

Hi Guys,

Really need some advice regarding the strange idle drop whilst the engine is warm.
Car in question is a polo gti.

Problem is basically when stuck in the traffic or coming to a hault, the engine would studder and the idle will drop from 800 rpm to 600rpm and then
go back up to 800 rpm. All this happens within few second of time and idle is restored back to normal.

- I have cleaned the throttle body and realigned it via vagcom.
- Installed a new coolant temperature sensor.
- Checked via fleebay vagcom for MAF reading and they seem normal. Idles at 3.8 g/s
- Checked for vaccum leaks and cant see any splits. Gone through breather pipes, PCV valves and vaccum pipes etc

I have searched and searched on google and owners who had the same problem had their ignition coils replaced which cured the problem.
So I checked my coilpacks today by simultaneously removing the coilpack connectors to which the engine was hesitant everytime as expected
which tells me it may not be the problem.

Basically running out of options :( should I change the spark plugs first? As coilpacks are dam expensive

Please advice!!!!!!

This happens to me sometimes and I'm on a standard polo. I didn't think anything of it though. Sometimes it'll even randomly konk out if I sit with the engine running in a car park for long enough.

Anybody? I remember there was a thread about coilpack recall. Did anybody had that done? If yes what are the part numbers of the new ones as I am gonna get new coil packs on friday.
This idle is doing my head in :P New spark plugs and coilpack. See what happens from there on.....

Also can a exhaust leak cause this?
