Braking and hearing very faint screeching?

Post by aaronon »

I got new pads and discs in the front and when I brake with the radio off I can hear a tiny screech when I brake. It can't be the new ones and it's not the drum brakes because they don't screech do they? Beside in the mot the guy said my brakes were great so it's not that they're old.

Does anyone else get this? My sister says it means I need to pour some brake fluid in? Is it normal for brakes to make noise? Should I ignore it? Would putting brake fluid in help? It's level seems to be fine :S

Thanks for any advice :)

It most definetly wouldnt be anything to do with brake fluid.

It is more than likely the brake pads bedding in as you said they are new, this is normal and should disappear after a while.

yer check the rear shoes, if they have been adjusted wrong they could have worn and would cause the noise. they get alot of brakedust build up as the shoes are enclosed in the drum. :)

some brakes squeak and some dont.

cheaper pads and discs are more susceptible to this.

But do not grease the face of the pads ;) if you grease the backs of the pads and the little metal clips that hold then in should sort it. :) could also be the rain mine make a noise after rain until I give the car a bit of a blast.
