I am hopefully going to be buying a 9n3 polo gti soon as an upgrade from my 6n2 gti

and was just wondering what kind of things I need to be looking at and checking while vueing the car. For example the 6n2's have bad gearboxes...
Any help please

Wishbones bushes are prone to wear quick on all 9n and 9n3
Other will help more.

If its a 2006/2007 car make sure it has either had warranty work carried out on the gearbox as they are prone to crunching or during the test drive get them to change up whilst driving hard (usually 1st to 2nd).

This is important. If there's a crunching sound when shifting to 2nd at high revs, ask for the synchromesh to be replaced. You may also want to ask if the timing belt has been replaced if the clock is over 60k. Other than that you should be golden.

If the bushings are gone that's just an excuse to upgrade them aha
Okay, I shall check for crunching then, it's only done 26k miles so that's not a problem yet.

I got mine done under warranty and the bill would've been close to £1k

(assuming it was done at a dealer)
OP if you're saying that it doesn't matter because the car has only done low mileage, that is irrelevant. Mine started crunching after only 18,000 miles. If you were saying that to something else, then ignore what I said!

Yeah, I had to have my last gearbox reconditioned

pricey stuff!
Aha no, the miles was relating to the timing belt

thanks though!

Ah ok, no worries.
VW recommend having the timing belt done at 4 years/ 60,000 miles, whichever comes first. So if you're looking at a 2006/2007 one it should have had it done, make sure it has been and the service book is stamped to prove it!
Enjoy!

Well i've done it

Bought it!!
Two photos, I know they are crap but still...
Its only done 26500 miles, two owners (the first was VW as a demo car and the second was a lady who only drove it 3 miles into work each day

)
It is immaculate and mechanically sound no chips, dents, rips, nothing

And its a MASSIVE upgrade from my polo aha it has so much torque compared to the old one ha.
So a very happy me
I will be modifying it as soon as I pay some money back to my dad

Keep your eyes out...
