Cracked Radiator :(

Post by stuart.cameron »

Last night when driving home from work the coolant light started to flash red. So I got home and checked the coolant bottle which was almost empty and there was coolant dripping from underneath onto the drive.

Phoned VW Roadside who came out and said it looked like a dodgy weld on the radiator had split :(

So this morning the RAC towed it into the garage. Couldn't of happened on a worse weekend, the service guy said they wont be able to get any parts until Tuesday next week beacuse it's a bank holiday weekend!

To make things even worse the local VW garage wont give me a courtesy car as I'm under 25 :(

Has anyone had any experience with VW Roadside arranging a hire car? Don't want to be stuck with something rubbish for a week...

Yeah, it's daft that they won't give out courtesy cars to anyone under 25. Especially since their fleet is usually bottom spec cars and you're rolling about in a GTi normally, hardly like the power's going to take you by surprise and make you park it in a ditch is it? Absolute madness lol.

Try calling around some of the hire car companies if you desperately need a car. Some of them let you rent something but put on a huge excess because of your age. Know a guy who did this but can't for the life of me remember the company. Worth a shot, or maybe try getting short term insurance on someone elses car? Failing that, try and wrangle an extended test drive from the dealers over the weekend or something?

Hope you get it sorted mate.

Well that turned out be a fairly quick turn around the car was towed in on Friday morning and after an email to the service manager the car was on the ramp that afternoon and a new radiator was due in on Saturday. Got an email this morning saying it's now ready to collect!

I wonder if VW Roadside will tow it back to my house for me....
