StewyL's 6n2 GTI Now With Air

Post by slarner »

Hi people

I'm new to this forum! And I own a Red 6n2 GTI

Ive had this just over a year now. Glad I got it! As I had 1.2 twin port corsa before(dog s**t!)

Here is how I brought it

Image

Image

It had 84,000 miles on the clock and a recon gearbox. Along with Ronal LS wheels. And a billy bolt on cherry bomb exhaust!!

Anyway this was the good bits!!!

Anyway after a few days of driving it I had a few issues!!

I got fed up with the exhaust just driving it home!! So along came a genuine back box from VW (£230!!!)

It also turned out that the Ronals were like 50p pieces and bent as a 9 bob note!!

And I also didn't like the front grill being black!!!

So in with the new bits

I acquired some BBS RA's for £80 which were straight so we put them on! ( they are still on there a year later!!)

Also a new front grill with a silver vw badge

I then left it like this for a while...

More updates to come

Car looks great mate :) must admit i'm a massive fan of the Ronal LS wheels but the BBS RA's dont look too bad either

What size are they 15's or 14's?

Red ones are the best! Wish my bonnet was that chip free too, looks very nice. Like the wheels too - and it's a bit of a stepup from a Corsa - my sister and several friends have them, horrid cars!

I got this from Waltham Abbey It came up on eBay!

Anyway Let me carry on with what else happened..

The next thing i decided to fit was my Car Pc. Which was quite easy expect wiring the + cable through the bulkhead!!!

Here was the result.

Image

After owning it a few months i was having a few problems with performance and misfiring.

Which lead to me finding a HT lead cable tied on! And a melted coil pack so along came a new pack!

Image

This didn't seam to make any performance changes at all. Still poor acceleration and a complete bore to drive!!. A few more months passed with everything being okay! And the worst happened!i heard a horrible noise coming from the gearbox!!!!

Anyway i sorted out getting a recon box which came and got it fitted! Bear in mind before the box change 80mph was 2800RPM. Now its 4000RPM (Turned out it was a 1.9 diesel box!!!!!)

This happend just the week before UD2012!. After this happened this sorta got me in gear to get the rest of the car sorted out. So i brought some Coilovers. (KW Varient 1) and we fitted them

Image

Note the coilover nut is wound up higher than this now. As the wheel wouldn't even go round at this height.

Front done

Image

We got to the finished Product....

Image

But there was an issue with the arch liner catching on the wheels on the front. As we found out here..

Image

Here is how we left it. and this is how i drive it daily!

After all this i then decided it was time i brought some decent looking wheels!!!

So i got these! Infact from an existing forum member.. (Yellow 6n2 Colour concept)

These are 8J all round and have RS stainless Dishes with gold bolts. Running 185/45's

Running these wheels means i can also go lower!!!

Very Nice Indeed 8) the paintwork looks amazing after being detailed

The Gearbox problem has happened to a few people where they/garage have fitted a diesel box, however its normally the 1.4TDI box which is the same bar the ratio's.

Paint has got a few problems which you can't see in the pictures

The bonnet and front bumper is intact a slightly different red and also there is a dirty key scratch down the passenger side! But it has been filled in quite well with a touch up pen!

And the amount of stone chips I've had since being lowered !!
