6R Polo 1.4 Match brake issues

Post by jakovdub »

has anyone had any issues with the brakes on their 6r?

i've had it 2 months and it has just started feeling weird when i brake, now and again when i brake i would push the brake pedal down all the way and it would clunk and feel like i aint braking much or it takes time to brake, if i de-compress the brake pedal then re-apply my foot then it will be fine.....

will be taking it too vw soon anyway for them to check it over

just wondering if anyone has had the same problem

i haven't felt it since this post but i have been calming the braking down a lot, like slowing down slowly instead of harsher braking, but i think i will just tell them at vw in a few days

Hi there.... just registered to the forum having read this....

I suffered exactly the same 2 weeks ago, narrowly avoiding impact to the rear of a new BMW in traffic (city start stop traffic, from approx 20mph, not braking heavy, dry road with no oils or fuels spilt...) .... but my symptoms were exactly as yours... almost felt like the ABS had kicked in, but it hadnt.

Previous to this, i had a few experiances were my brakes didnt feel right (and pedal "clicking") but i thought i was being paranoid... until they basically failed!!! If i had have had a collision due to this, it would have been my word against the world, and would have been my liability through no fault of my own!

My Polo is a 2 year old 1.6TDi, and i have only recently bought it second hand from my local dealer.... Which is where my car has been basically the last 3 weeks for brake issues, irratic idle and intermittant down on power, stereo with a mind of its own, and a bodywork issue.... and was very much made to feel that i was telling lies of my problems initially as they had plugged the car in and no faults/codes logged in the system (myself being a lifelong VW enthusiast, and having owned over 40 various VW models in my time on the roads, I have half an idea what im talking about ;) ) Only i was able to record a video of the car not running right to back me up, and now this thread backing up exactly the same brake problem i had...

Im at the point now where i am rejecting the car ( unfortunately as i love it and perfect for the role i need it to perform!) and as mine is a rarer model ( white 3dr ) its looking like a direct replacement isnt available ( though im now being offered other alternatives i dont want... i think when im spending £10.5k on something, i would like to have the car i want instead of an alternative after thought!!! ) Frustration is beggining to set in...

Thankyou for posting this thread, as it proves my experiance isnt a solitary one in my head as im being made to feel...

Has it happened to you since? Or anyone else reading this experianced similar?

Well atleast someone had the same issue, just before we talk I have had a major car
Accident In this polo now, it was not due to the brakes but a man driving into the side of me which
Flipped the car :/

But since I posted this the brakes have been okay, I had one fault
Where the hill start failed and spazzed out! But before the accident the brakes
Were working fine!

But yeah I thought it was me being paranoid too, I have a courtesy 6R now and must say
The brakes are completely different so I know it wasnt me over looking into the situation.

Keep me updated on anymore you have on this, I think I'm getting a replacement 6R as mine was
A write off so I will keep you posted on how them brakes feel :)

Sounds like you had a surging problem which is common with the new CR diesels with DPF! if i am right vw will try to fob you saying it was down to a ecu update, from what ive read you are better off rejecting it and getting another car if possible as the surging has only affected a few of the TDI engines.
