Hi Guys,
Need a bit of advice please. Basically going to try and fit front coilovers to my GTI tomorrow and need a bit of advice.
My main concern is how to go about removing the front strut? I don't have the 12 point socket to remove the bolt off
the hub. But can I avoid removing the hub and simply remove the strut from the wheel bearing housing where the strut
sits.
Thanks
Suspension query
Re: Suspension query
Hit the hub down on the top just behind the disk in front of the strut and it will slowly move, just remember to unplug the ABS sensor and unbolt the bracket that holds the flexi so you're not hitting everything. Will probably have to lower the subframe to give you enough movement to get the strut out though
Re: Suspension query
Thanks for the advice mate.
Is it a big job to lower the subframe?
Also would you know what size spline bolt is it on the wheel bearing housing where the strut sits?
As mentioned in this tutorialshttp://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/lofiver ... 33943.html

Also what size is the 12 point bolt on the hub? Looks like a funny bolt.
Re: Suspension query
Well guys attempted on doing the fronts over the weekend and this is what I ended up doing to the driveshaft thread this morning
Me being stupid, used a extension bar and hit it with a hammer to get it off the hub
A mistake which has left the GTI
on a axle stand :'(
What do you reckon guys, use a file/hacksaw? Worst case scenario is it difficult to change the CV joint?
