Fitting RNS510

Post by joeallenpro »

Hi Guys,

Just ordered an RNS510 part number 1T0 035 680 H - the latest 2012 version.

Has anybody installed an RNS510? My Polo currently has a RCD310 (standard 2011 Polo Match system with MDI)

I've read in some places that some vehicle coding may be required, but I can only really find resources for the Golf, which has things like the nav instructions on the driver's display etc, which I know the Polo won't due to the type of display...

I do have the glovebox MDI so I don't know if anything needs doing for that.

Any ideas? I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it's just a plug-and-play swap with the addition of the GPS antenna.

I suppose if some coding is required it will be a good opportunity to make some other changes too.

Thanks!

Hi mate
I put a rcd 510 in to replace a 310, the car had Mdi and rear parking aid, it literally is take of trim undo the 4 fixings and unplug all the wires and refit, type in the code and away you go!
Good luck

Sweet!!

I might take some pics and post the whole process if I can be bothered...

Where did you mount the GPS antenna? I plan to place it above the central heater vents, I've found out how to get to that spot

Thanks!

It will fit fine, just needs the GPS antenna

On the polo where i fitted one I changed the roof antenna over to a shark fin type.

Rns worked a treat with the Rear view badge camera too

Only thing that was missing was intergration in the Instrument cluster due to no Highline cluster

Just finished fitting it

Took less than 30 mins...

Pop-off the trim, remove the screws, remove RCD310, disconnect the cables, fit the GPS antenna, connect the cables to the RNS510, slot it into place, put the screws back and fit the trim back.

All done and works perfectly! Can't wait to spend some time with it.

Nice one.

I'm thinking of doing the same with my Polo now. The RNS510 is good value for what you get. Does your MDI work fine as well? (iPhone etc)

Any chance of anymore pics to see what yours looks like fitted?

Cheers

The RNS510 allways look awesome. :)

I really want one myself. :)

Sorry for the OT. But what's with the Exclusive badge?

Sure I'll take some pictures this week / weekend

The Exclusive bade was put there for some photography I was doing, it looks quite cool, but means nothing you can pick them up for about £15

The MDI and aux-in functions all work flawlessly - the only thing that needs some work is the voice control system, my Polo doesn't have the microphone installed so I'm without voice control for the moment.

However I understand that if you do have the mic installed, it should work without any extra effort.
