195/50/15 versus 195/45/15

Post by Chazaxl »

So, my wife's GTI Polo 6N2 has 45 profile tyres. Car looks a bit 'wrong' - any issues with fitting 50 profile tyres on instead?

Thanks - car is not lowered - think thats why it looks odd at the moment with the /45 profile.

I've just fitted 50 series profiles to mine.

The ride is better and they fill the arches more. No rubbing, no problems.

Standard height ?,
195/45/15 is what is supposed to be on. you will loose just shy of 10mm arch gap fitting 50 profile, and your speedo will be out 3.something %.
on the plus side if it keeps raining your car will float with the balloons you've just fitted :P

45's all the way. 50's look 'too big' in my opinion.

Couldn't have said it any better.

If anything put some Eibach springs on it,not truck tyres.

Wow. Strong abundance to 50 profiles!!

I run 50s on my summer and winter wheels but that's due to the fact I had them on my mk2 golf GTI which takes a 50 instead of a 45.

I'm down 35mm and I don't get any scrubbing even with mudflaps fitted and weight in the car

50s are also much cheaper so although the profile is deeper, if your not that bothered, it's a good saving to be had.

Standard height.I don't like the look or the ride quality of low profile tyres. Uniroyal Rainsport 2's don't float, they dig in and grip.
