foglights wiring

Post by peeetz »

hi i was just wondering does the 2011 polo 1.2 s have the wiring harness fitted so if i just buy the correct wires it will be able to just be plugged in or will i have to re wire the foglights another way to get them to work?

Ditto.

I dont think there's anyone here who has done the proper retrofit here hence no response to your question.

From my research, I found:

1. Wiring at kufatec http://www.kufatec.co.uk/shop/en/Volksw ... VW-Polo-6R
Whether they work or not depends on the version of central electronics module that's in the car.

2. Need a new dash light switch to turn on the front fogs. This one will probably work:

3. need to VCDS/vagcom to enable the progs

4. There are no instructions on how/where to wire

I was going to get the same spark who installed my 9N3 fogfights to do it - but I've held off buying the switch and loom because of that point "some cars need a new bmc unit".

I'm not just if its just the lowest model car who they'd leave that out of for cost reasons; or basically any model that didn't ship with fogs.

Yeh need to check the BCM version.
I just crawled under the steering column and took a photo with the phone:

Image

I got the 6R0 937 087B.

Just need to find out if that BCM supports front fogs.

According to Ross-tech http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.ph ... tting_(6R), that's the High+ model :)

Not sure about front fogs but I can add Cruise Control

Oooooh!

Did you just stick your camera under the steering. Aim up. And take a photo? Or do we need to remove labels. I might do mine!

Yeh I just used my iPhone and switched to the front camera so that I could see what the camera was seeing while my head was on the floor mat !.
There's no stickers on the BCM.

Also, I just got the wiring diagram for the fogs:

Image

This shows TWO lights on each side - one is the fog (L22 for left) and the other is DRL (L174 for left).
That is, there are TWO types of fog lights; one with DRL and one without. This explains my previous confusion about two bulbs.

Theoretically, there are two pairs of wires coming from the BCM through the bulkhead and into the engine compartment to connection points D106 and D107. IF the wires are there, then it should be simple to attach the fog wiring harness to D106 and D107.
To test the theory, need to find these two connections points.

Where are these two points in the engine compartment located ?

Oh ho. I'm gonna photo mine tomorrow. Hope mine is the same as yours lol.

Surely VW wouldn't put in the wire if your car wasn't designed to have fogs built in?

So essentially we need the loom, the switch (which I believe is identical to the 9n3 switch) .... And... Some random extra wire? I assume a spark would have the third bit as that's the route is need to go down as I'd blow up my car!

In fact I think I'm gonna stick to OEM and just pay the price for the official VW light switch just to make sure the chrome matches the rest of the buttons. Do all models with fogs have chrome bits? (Ie if we ask VW for a fog light switch is there a possibility of them giving us a non chrome version! :O)

Found the part numbers on the Internet for the brushed chrome 6R fog light switch.

6R0 941 531 F APV 6R Polo "Brushed Alloy" Headlight Switch - Rear Foglight ONLY

6R0 941 531 G APV 6R Polo "Brushed Alloy" Headlight - Front AND Rear Foglights.

-----

Forgot to photograph my BMC today lol. Will do it tomorrow and then decide whether to order that and the loom or not :)

Well now I'm completely stumped as your number shows no results on google lol :( Why don't they just stick all the part names on their website with a picture haha
