2007 Polo GTI reverse camera installation

Post by Staffy12 »

Hey all,

I have an Alpine 530EBT installed. Now I would like to install the reverse camera that came with it (generic brand camera). There is an orange wire from the HU that according to the installation guide is meant to be connected to (+) terminal on the reverse light. The camera also needs a red wire connected to the (+) terminal on the reverse lamp as per instructions for the camera.
The black wire from the camera needs to be connected to the earth (-).
The RCA yellow cable is for picture (obviously).

My question is, do I connect BOTH the camera's reverse wire AND the HU's reverse wire to the Polos (+) reverse wire?

I would like the camera's picture to come up automatically when I select reverse. NOT to have to select the source every time on the HU.

I removed the left tail light and took it apart. I assume my model the reverse (+) is a blue/grey wire thats in #2 portal of the tail light adapter? Can anyone tell me if this is correct?

I assume the black wire in the tail light adapter is (-) or earth, hence this is where I connect the camera's earth or (-)?

Any help much appreciated thanks!

I did it!

The blue/grey wire is reverse (+). Both the camera (+) red wire and the HU's reverse wire need to be soldered to this. The camera earth (-) needs to be soldered to the brown wire, on the left tail light for RHD.
No re-coding is required as my model is not a full canbus system.
All works great!
