GTI heatshield
Has anyone got/made one of these? Looking to buy a cone filter and fancy a heatshield to go with it.

interested too
Re: GTI heatshield
Can you not buy a 90 degree silicon pipe and leave the base of the airbox in place with the intake from front panel then let the come openly sit in the base of airbox?

Re: GTI heatshield
Guys there's been a heap of testing on this recently and the results show there is no point at all of a heat shield unfortunately other than looks on the 1.8t.
They logged the IAT's and g/s on the stock air box with paper filter, drop in filter, cone filter with and without shield, and velocity stack with cone filter with and without shield.
Long story short what you want is maximum air flow - g/s measured at the MAF and a cone filter or better yet a velocity stack with cone filter will always win hands down. Your cooling system - decent FMIC, will take care of the IAT's measured at intake manifold. Don't forget these are turbo charged cars so unlike NA vehicles intake temps are dictated by your cooling system.
Jump over to the 1.8t technical section on VWvortex for all the tests.
Hope this helps

Is there a velocity stack available for a 70mm maf though? Only seen ones for the 80mmVWindahouse wrote:Guys there's been a heap of testing on this recently and the results show there is no point at all of a heat shield unfortunately other than looks on the 1.8t.

How bout these

Are you still running stock MAF housing? Is so a silicone reducer will help.
Cheers.

Re: GTI heatshield
Two options man. Either grab the whole kit from BPI
http://www.bpi-us.com/filterkits.php
Or do what I did and grab a custom made inverted cone filter from these guys
http://www.verociousmotorsports.com/Sho ... Air-Filter
I have a Blue 8" long with 6" inlet size on the way, and they should include a clamp also.
If you can do some logging with VCDS and map your g/s air flow and post your results. I think you'll be happy with the difference

But any cone with a 6" inlet should work right?VWindahouse wrote:Two options man. Either grab the whole kit from BPI
