H&R Springs or cheap coilovers?

£160 for H&R 25/40 spring kit
£180 for cheapo FK coilovers

what would you go for/have you gone for and for what reasons? also what would the cost be to fit either of them plus tracking or what ever else is necessary (I don't really know )

Springs if you want to retain comfort.
Coilovers if you want to go low.

tbf id rather go for good quality springs than sh*t coilovers!

I went for the 25/40 h&r and have been great!!

Reviews on fk coilovers dont look promising either.

Better off going for ap coilovers or better or just settle for springs.

I agree, had cheap coils on my old car, it was a horrible ride, hence I went for kw's this time round. If that's your budget, stick to good quality springs.

Thanks all. I was thinking decent springs. But how do I go about fitting them? Presuming VW will rip me off, should I go to a garage?

Your thinking exactly the same as me I've been contemplating the exact same situation!! Ive been flipping between springs and coilovers constantly. I think because vw have my car in for repair "fixing" a steering fault they've had it a few weeks and the wiring harness they need is on back order for god knows how long I may put a complaint in and try my very best to convince them to supply and fit the vw springs *keep dreaming eh* haha if not I know a garage that have quoted £150 to fit them and there may be a discount off the books on a Saturday morning when they're quiet so I'll see how things pan out.

I know I thought it was a joke :/ but that's what vw charge as well it seems to be the set price people quote... Anybody had any good quotes or experiences with fitting?

did mine myself, never done it before but had all the tools because dads a mechanic.

Did both rears in 30 mins from the minute the jack went under to actually lowering back down its very very easy!! just have a look under it will all make sense what you have to do

Front took about 30 mins each with help, you have to pry a bracket at the back of the shock thats griping it then stamp on the disc (thick sole shoes recommended)

rough guide but there are a few full guides knocking around the net.

Take your time and you will get it done in about 2 hours start to finish.

I have swapped springs on a vw many years ago....and I'm getting on so I can't remember.
So you swap the rear springs over then remove the front leg, split it swap springs and refit.

What should/Needs to get done (if anything) to sort keep tracking/steering etc all ok?

To be honest I don't think I even have the tools to do it. Plus it will need to be tracked after anyway so it kind of makes sense. When I get the polo in for a much needed service I'll ask how much it would be to fit them. Thanks again all

I had power steering issues last year too... also creaky suspension which they 'fixed' but didn't do anything and made me pay. I think you'd be surprised what could happen if you kick up a fuss... I'm thinking of complaining about the second case of suspension issues in a few months and seeing if I could get the lowering springs chucked on worth a try
