Hello everyone, I'm Neil, 38 year old something who's just bought the wife a 2001 Gti with 49k on it. (She's pleased!)
The car is in generally good shape to be honest, a small thrust bearing whine, and I'm pretty sure it has a Near side wheel bearing on it's way out.
I'm praying it's not the gearbox lol, although I'm about to replace the gearbox oil just to be sure.
I've already replaced the temp sender and thermostat and bought vcds (vagcom) just in case.
Anyone have any tips for any changes that can be made using vagcom for the better, or is it just for fault finding on these models?
Also, it has a set of fox alloys on it, which I can't wait to get rid!! (I love cars looking standard, maybe dropped a little!)
Anyway, Hello!
New Boy!

Welcome along!
VCDS is good for things like lock/ unlock bleep (which i find annoying), but mostly just fault finding and clearing.
49K that's impressive!

Re: New Boy!
One of the rear wheel bearings failed on mine
I replaced them both as it's better to replace them in pairs
I would recommend using genuine parts to replace it too.

Cheers Gents!
Yeah, I thought it was mainly for fault finding but thought I'd ask the question. It's there for when its needed anyway.
Like I said, I'm hoping it is just a wheel bearing, or at least tyre noise! Lol
Thanks for the welcome.
