Common faults

Post by KarlM »

Hi all,

just about to (hopfully!) swap my 6n for an Indian Red Polo GT.

The guys just in the process of replacing the head gasket and exhaust but I thought it would be a good idea to ask if theres anything else that I should be looking for?

any help would be appriciated (and hardhitter - I'll be wanting some bits!)

Have a look for rust in the battery compartment (especially at the back) and on the fuel tank filler neck. Those are the weak areas really.
If he's doing the headgasket and exhaust thats a bonus. If he does the timing belt and water pump at the same time, even better.

Nice colour to have one in, just give us a shout if you want anything.

Temp/lambda senders etc?
The hot air feed pipe is probably knackered, if you think it's worth replacing :D ... same goes for the breather pipe?
Seats might be a bit loose if the previous owner was both heavy and enthusiastic.

Um.................
not much else to say really, on top of what Karl mentioned!

Paint might have sustained a few dings..? And be careful of fag burns in the seat..

My own has a couple other mechanical faults but i'm pretty sure they're unique
