Replacement Headlight 9n3 gti

Post by sblack650 »

Anyone here replaced a headlight before? Replica or genuine?

I had a very bad day... Thought I would clear out some condensation that had built up in the headlight by leaving them on in the drive while washing it, thought putting the towel over it would help it warm up on a cold evening... it melted and turned a section of the lens white

I was considering getting any 9n3 LHS headlight from a scrappers and swapping the lens about, but v tricky? and it could well be scratched up and aged. I'd love to retro fit projectors but use the car everyday and don't think I could do it in less than a day.

Just get a replacement unit. Replacing the lens is very time consuming as you have to heat-gun all around the seal to remove the lens, even if you manage to get it off and replace it you'll probably end up with even worse condensation.

Next time you want to clear condensation from the headlight just wait for a dry day and take the rubber caps off the backs of the headlights and leave them on for a bit, or sticky tape a silica gel packet from a shoebox onto the inside of a rubber cap.

Hope this helps.

That's a top idea. I've ended up just buying a new unit, pricy but do a proper job. Might remove the bulbs that did the damage, not worth happening again. 130W rally bulbs, would cook your dinner. Get some honeycombs in at the same time sure :)
And thanks for the advice.
