Got mine from dubmiester mate. Had to send my V5 off to get the plates but they are road legal. The plates are stamped with there name and address and also have the BS kite mark which is required. Wouldn't trust anyone from ebay to be honest.

Completely legal, a really nice subtle mod in my eyes.

Just a couple of things to note..

Having pressed number plates is likely to draw more attention to you by the police and you are likely to be stopped.
Even if the manufacturer name, post code and BS marking is present on the plate many motorists are still being issued with £60 fines with the only recourse being a magistrates court. This seems to arise from how "made from" retro-reflective materiel is interpreted, rightly or wrongly by police.
I have yet to see someone test this at magistrates, the majority of people pay the fine then remove the plates as it isn't worth the agro.
Even if the plates are "legal" proving it may be difficult. Manufacturers have to meet a set number of standards to comply with British Standards, however they are not given a certificate at the end of the testing process just a results booklet which you would need an expert in the field to interpret and verify for you at court

So if you are...
happy to be stopped by the police on a more regular basis, giving them the opportunity to scrutinise every other aspect of your vehicle at the same time as well
happy to receive a £60 fine on each occasion you are stopped
happy to contest the fine at magistrates court
happy to run the risk of losing the case at court having paid for your expert witness to back up the manufacturers claim they are legal
happy to then take a civil action against the supplier of the plate for all the losses you have incurred due to said pressed number plate, which you may again lose.
then i say.. go for it :D

On a serious note, I genuinely looked at getting these for myself however having done a bit of research I really don't think they are worth it. Knowing/believing something is legal and proving it can be difficult and I haven't got the time or the will to try it.

I agree with all the above on paper. There are definitely things you have to consider.

However, I've had pressed plates with the correct font, manufacturers number etc and been pulled twice for having a bulb out, once on the polo, once on my old seat altea. And had no problem with the plates.

It's a risk as car owner you take. If you want a compromise, you can now get acrylic plates with raised lettering that look smart.
