RNS510 Compatibility with VW Touch Phone Kit (TPK)

Hi Everyone!

My Polo has had a very good Christmas! It got some wheel trims for my winter steel wheels, audi A1 metal pedals and now an RNS-510!

I've managed to fit the RNS-510 today and almost everything is working except for the touch phone kit. Now the new radio has been fitted in there is no audio coming from the touch phone kit and it doesn't cut the radio out when I try to call. Are the RNS-510 and Touch Phone Kit compatible with each other? Alternatively could I plug the touch phone kit into the radio so I could get rid of the TPK screen?

They do work together fine. I have both fitted in mine

Is the tpk loom plugged in line properly between the rns510 and the car radio loom?

Quick Response! I thought it was all plugged in OK, the car already had the TPK installed when I bought it, so I'm not 100% sure how it was all set up. Should the TPK wires be somewhere inside the big set of wires plugged in to get the power?

I'll take it back out and trace the bluetooth wires to check it is all plugged in and come back.

The tpk loom plugs in inbetween the car loom and back of the rns. The car loom plugs into it, then that goes into the tpk and back out which then plugs into the rns

It's likely the audio cable has just popped out of either the quad lock block or the tpk control box behind the dash

A quick update:

Spent ages checking everything was plugged in and couldn't make the it work. After about 30 minutes of trying I gave up and put it back together but astonishingly it started to work again! So there must of been something loose.

I've noticed the voice control on the RNS510 still can't hear me but I'm happy that the phone has started to work!

Voice control on the RNS510 doesnt work with the tPK - only works with genuine VW kits that fully interface with the RNS.

Might be something that I'll look into buying but ATM cant afford to splash out on one.

Went to use the voice kit today and the TPK man is VERY quiet, even at full volume, it wasn't previously. Nothing wrong with the radio/RNS volume so I'm quite stumped, as i checked all the wires were in. The microphone is working fine. I'll try on my home way from work but it looks like buying a the vw bluetooth kit might be needed.

Would the VW bluetooth module power adapter be the same as the TPK? It could save me some work changing them over.

Turn up the volume on the RNS when in a call, and press the plus on the TPK kit in a call - should make it louder

It works fine for me so it should work fine for you

No - very different kits. Alot of work is needed to get the VW kits working in a Polo.

I'll give it ago with both the RNS and phone volumes on full to see what it is like. I'll try my hardest to get this to work, as you've put me off putting in the VW bluetooth! I'll post up later when I've had a chance to try. Got my fingers crossed...

Fixed in a fashion, on the "tone" button, increasing the telephone volume to full had made it so I can hear people on the phone. It is a slight white noise behind as it is on full volume but it works.

While increasing the telephone volume it played music at the maximum level and it could probably make me deaf if it plays music at the telephone volume but as things are it is acceptable

Phone volume is also controlled by the phone. When in a call, turn the volume up via your phone. That should boost the Bluetooth volume

Update: Completely fixed the problem now. I rebooted the RNS510 by using the two arrows and the star key and on the settings put everything to the factory defaults. To my surprise the volume has increased and I no longer need to have everything full.

Weird one but thought I would post it in the off chance anybody else has the problem!
