Hello,
Im sure thats been done before. I just wanted to know if is possible to upgrade my simple key of my Polo 6r S 60bhp to a Flip Fob Key.
I have seen many on ebay one like this one uncut key..
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-Buttons-Rem ... 417a40bb3c
1. Is it just a matter to have the new fob blade cut to the original?
2. Can i just change the transponder from the old key to the new fob key..? is there any specific location for the transponder on the new fob key?
3. Im not bother about the 2 buttons on the new fob working.. i only do it as the fob looks miles better than the key.
4. If the new key fob has electronics inside will this affect the opening and starting operation on my car every having the original transponder?
If someone has done that diy please could you let me know if it was very difficult?
Thank you in advance!

Re: Transform Polo 6r s key to Flip key type
It should work fine. There's a cutout in the flip key housing for the transponder.

On the left, look at the smaller black part on the top. There's a gap that looks like a large grain of rice. This is where the transponder goes.
The flip keys whilst nice have gone out of vogue. VW came up with the idea 10 - 15 years ago and now everything from Vauxhall to Citroen to frigging Hyundai has ripped off the design

Thank you for the info Ash!! Its true that they have gone out of vogue.. but better that the traditional key will be
Is it any difficult to take apart the key in order to get the the smaller black part where it goes the transponder?
I am going to do it... by the way do you recommend the 2 or the 3 buttons key?
Cheers

Re: Transform Polo 6r s key to Flip key type
It's pretty straight forward. The two halves of a complete fob can be separated using a flat head screwdriver. The part with the battery and electronics (which is irrelevant in this application) just splits into two without requiring any tools. The part with the key and transponder is held together by a screw under the badge. Be careful taking this apart - don't lose the screw / spring or button. It can be a bit fiddly getting it back together the first time you're doing it, but it's self explanatory. If you get stuck, you should be able to find the info online fairly easily.
And either the 2 button or 3 button - not really relevant as you won't be using them. My 9n came with a 3 button fob.

Thank you very much for your reply Ash,
I will update you on how i got on with this dyi..
Do you think it is very difficult to take out the transponder from the original key.. i have read that is glued... is nail polish a solution in order to release it easier?
Regards

Re: Transform Polo 6r s key to Flip key type
One of the original flip keys that came with my car had worn out internally, meaning the key wouldn't "stay open" and kept on falling onto my lap whilst driving. The part that had worn out is integral to the part of the plastic housing that the transponder resides in.
I held that part over my gas cooker with a pair of pliers, whilst trying not to heat up the transponder too much. Might not have been the best approach to use, but I managed to deform the plastic and denature some of the original glue that held the transponder in without doing any damage to the transponder.
Just be careful whilst taking the transponder out - I experimented with an old flip key I got off eBay for pennies and smashed the transponder chip in that one
Make sure you don't do that to your original transponder. I suspect I got lucky removing my own transponder.

Re: Transform Polo 6r s key to Flip key type
The only problem in finding now is where to cut the new blade. Most of the locksmith dont want to cut those type of carkeys and some of them reject to do your own key only they do if they provide the key. I will keep looking.. but if someone knows a nice place where i can do the key cutting on the Manchester area will be appreciate it. Otherwise i will give up hehe
Thank you
Thank you

Is the blade in the original key held in with a pin similar to the flip key? Have a look. If so, just swap the blade over.
