Electric Window Issues

Hi

Just bought a Polo Match 1.4 2001 (Y Reg). A couple of issues with the front Electric windows.
They do not wind up or down. There is power to them as I can hear them clicking when I press the button.

However having said that, the other day, when my wife opened the passenger door, both the front windows wound themselves down.

We then had to take the door cards off and help the motor wind the windows back up.

Any suggestions???

when you unlock the car if you hold the key in the unlock position they go down have you tried this for the lock position to see if they close?
