1.2 tsi cone filter

Post by helloimjammie »

Hey guys
Got a 1.2 tsi rline, just wondering if any of you have changed the air filter to a cone filter? And if so what size did you get so that it fits the standard piping?

Not really doing it for performance, more just for abit more sound if I'm honest.

Any recommendations or experiences are welcome :)

Thanks in advance

Smoke, Mirrors & Snake oil salesmen. Plus you will instantly invalidate any remaining manufacturers warranty on the car. Likewise insurers love this stuff as not informing them will probably invalidate your insurance cover and if you do tell them they will see it as a reason to bump up your premiums.

Oh how I do love mighty car mods!

Yea that's quite true actually, I think I might pass on the idea then, if you don't get any significant gain, if anything more a loss in performance, plus only doing it for the sound which will probably get annoying after a while, there actually isn't much point is there haha!

Thanks for the reply and advice Wolfie :)

Just re-read my post. Didn't intend to sound such a grumpy old cynic. If you like the sound fair enough, but I think the cough... "gains" are overstated. I wouldn't have one simply because of the warranty issues.

Plus everyone knows silver cars are faster anyway. :D :D

Tried these on my 1.2tsi and I can tell you this:

1) You will lose power as the design of the standard airbox is for low end torque which this engine greatly needs
2) You will use more fuel
3) It sounds nice and you get a ton of turbo sound!
4) The intake of the 1.2 tsi hose is 50mm give or take a mm

I had one on my car for about a month and released what crap it was. The reduced power was enough for me to get rid of it. Get a decent panel filter instead and if you want turbo sound, get an exhaust. I declared my mods to the insurance company (im 29) and they didn't bump up my premium at all. The only mod that did by a small amount was the lowering springs which was about £20.

Wolfie I didn't think you sounded like a grumpy cynic don't worry! Your point were valid!
And cheers jay, I wanted to get an exhaust anyway because even though the rline has a nice rasp, it's only in the low end.. I may get a cheap one. Just so I can experience it, but I will keep an eye on fuel consumption and the low end torque. Will probably end up getting rid of it haha!

Obviously I would declare mods like I always have done, because it's silly to not.
Thanks for the advice though guys I will look into it further :-)
