Grinding/scraping noise

My 6R Polo has developed a certain grinding or scraping noise somewhere from the front left when accelerating from a complete stop.It happens intermittently and only for a few seconds.

Suggestions, thoughts, remedies?

Chances are it's picked up a pebble that's become lodged in the brake calliper. Had it about 6-8 weeks back, it's a sort of clattery/clunky/scraping sound, always seems to be worse at slower speed. Hopefully it's just a matter of whipping the calliper assembly off and getting rid of the pebble.
