like many people i have 25/40 H&R springs on my car which i am happy with, my front shocks are now gone so i am thinking of replacing them
should i replace them with standard shocks?
Or should i go for something like bilstein b4/b6
+ how to sport shocks like them work with lowering springs?

Re: dampers / shocks
The B6 are designed to work with a shorter spring, and damping and valving is adjusted to suit the shorter travel with sport springs. The B4's are more like an OEM equivalent, as befits the lower cost compared to a B6.
The standard ones will likely work fine too, but they won't be in their 'sweet spot' on lowering springs.
What has happened to your fronts, are they leaking or just tired?
One of my rear dampers went (leaked) on my GTI, got two new OEM replacements as didn't want to change all four out just yet.
Whether the failure was due to running lowering springs I don't know, as I had a rear damper blow on a new A3 a few years back.

Well....im guessing the lowering springs weakened them a little bit...but i did get all 4 wheels off the ground at one pointTooks wrote:The B6 are designed to work with a shorter spring, and damping and valving is adjusted to suit the shorter travel with sport springs.
