Why did you order your Blue GT?

Post by TheFrog »

This is a Polo enthusiasts' forum, so it's not surprising there is a greater proportion of high-end models than you see on the roads. I am quite surprised, however, by the number of new members, like me, who have opted for the BGT, rather than, say, the GTI.

Personally, I went for the BGT because it has a cracking engine, but is less flashy than the GTI. Cost was not really an issue. How about other BGT owners?

I ordered a BlueGT mostly because of the fun & eco combo the 1,4 litre engine with ACT offers.

But also because I know of ALOT of people with both the Polo GTI and also other VW models with the twincharger engine who have had nothong but trouble with it stretching the timing chain and also the fact that it only came with the DSG7 gearbox which is very unreliable aswell.

So when VW announced the BlueGT with the new type engine where they went from timingchain back to a traditionel belt I was sold. :)

After almost 45.000 km ~ 28.000 miles I haven't regretted my choice yet. :)

Mine arrives on Friday next week and I'm so excited. I ordered one as it allows me to have a relatively quick car with some reasonable mpg for it. I've always wanted a golf/polo gti but I do far too many miles for it to be economically feasible.

It's also quite a rare car on the road compared to say the gti and the golf, a3 etc and I like to be a bit different. Let's not forget the blue silk paint and the interior.

Echo the above 3 posts, economy and fun combination out of the same engine, surprises a few of my friends how nippy the 1.4 engine is. Just liked the understated but sporty look of the car. Oh and the £20 road tax a year as apposed to the £265 a year for my old 9n3 Polo GTI

I negotiated a company car this year as it seemed a good way to get a modern, economical car. I don't do finance and was rolling round in a 2002 BMW 330Ci - an awesome way to turn petrol into tyre smoke and CO2 but not the ideal thing to be commuting 200+ miles a week in :D .

Work usually provides Golf SE 1.6 Dervs, which cost roughly £20k, so this was what I was given to work with. The Blue GT was a good fit cost wise, with good economy and enough performance to keep me interested. I managed to spec the Blue GT with Alcantara, Light and sight and DSG. Seeing the £3k discount they got I probably could have gotten away with Xenons too :-).

The savings on insurance, tyres etc (rears were £300 a set and did 9k on the BM) mean I can get my MX5 back on the road - there is no more fun cheap car than the MK1 MX.

You can't have Leather/Alcantara & Bi-Xenon together from the factory.

That is rather odd. I know I had to choose between heated seats and alcantara. Difficult one, will miss my heated (power adjust) seats.

I had to chose between leather/alcantara or Bi-Xenon. I was called back in to the dealer because I ordered the car with both options.

I also lost the foglight because of the Bi-Xenons. Bot I installed them my self later on. And have switched my stock BlueGT interior out with a R WRC interior. ;)

The snazzy blue seats in the BGT are one of the reasons I went for it. I think they add a touch of originality and are not OTT. I can't understand why anyone would want the Alcantara, especially at €1000

I agree, love the interior. I can understand getting the alcantara if you buy the ibiza fr version (the standard seats are awful) but the BlueGT has awesome standard seats. Especially if you're a Blackburn rovers fan....

When I was configuring the GTI online before I decided to go for the BGT, the first thing I did was add the €1000 Alcantara option to get rid of the standard plaid trim. A few years ago, I ordered a Mk6 Golf GTI and thought it would be nice to have the plaid, as it reminded me of the 1976 Mk1 that I lusted after as a teenager. How I regretted that choice!

I thought the blue seats looked rather tacky, but that's just my taste :-). Seats are black, ideally leather but that's sadly not an option.

That said, I have never actually seen them other than the pictures on the website and brochure.

Hope to have it for early March as its brand new ;)

I am no stranger to TSI or DSG as just sold my Ibiza Bocanegra 1.4 Twincharged beast :( was a very sad day as I loved that car so much. Had it for 3 years and fancied a change....... I must say the quality of the Polo is amazing and just looked the part... thats me all over.... looking the part and enjoying people looking at my cars ;) loved the DSG so was perfect for me....

Got mine last night and I love it. The only downside is that it's got the wrong alloys on, so it's going in tomorrow afternoon to get the ones from the showroom model (I wanted black and it has silver). Other than that it's an amazing car, so comfy and quiet and all the lads at work like it. Even the one that commented before seeing it that it's a girls car. I shall post pictures once it's been in for it's new alloys.

I had a 6R gti and after having nothing but issues with it unto 17000 miles, i changed to a white Blue GT with the alcantara interior!! I do miss the performance of the GTI but the blue gt is a more enjoyable car to own, mainly due to me not worrying about wether the gearbox will pack up or if the oil light will come on after 700 miles! Also the amount of money i save on fuel really is amazing even more so with the cheaper road tax :) However the new GTI may change my mind when i test drive one upon release.
