Staging

Post by TheFrog »

Anyone know how to program the speedo and rev counter so that the needles sweep round once just before you start the engine? It's called 'staging'.

Short video if you don't know what I'm talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLpr3YPoNFQ

I know it's a bit pointless, but I've always thought it looked good and I want to ask my dealer to program my car on delivery.

I believe high-end Audis have this feature as standard.

Can you enable it through the normal on-board computer, then?

OK, thanks. Can you give me some pointers to where it is in the menus, otherwise the technicians at my local dealer will just say it can't be done.

Thx :)

Your dealer doesn't have VCDS... But maybe their own tester can do it too.

What's the difference between VCDS and VAGCOM?

It's the same thing. VCDS is just the new name. VW dealers don't use it as they have the real VW tools. VCDS is a third party tool.

OK, thanks :) Where's the best/cheapest place to get a VCDS kit?

If you search on any VW Group forum you'll generally be able to find someone willing to lend one for some beer tokens!
