VW UK - 'Syneit' & 'Knight' alloy saga....

Post by lxm »

I've been looking at purchasing a set of x4 new alloys for my Polo 6R. I'm mad for the black gloss & silver finish 'Knight' alloys which are an option to fit from the factory at the extra cost of £500.00.

Unfortunately these 'knight' alloys are only available as a 'special order' part and not offered as an VW UK 'accessory'. They are an extortionate price of £400 + PER ALLOY!

VW UK offer an 'accessory' alloy called the 'syneit' at a much more reasonable price of £150.00 per alloy. The provided image of the alloy on the website, VW UK's internal parts depot, and the accessory booklet shows the 'knight alloy' which is black gloss & silver. The parts manager has assured me that the syneit at £150.00 is 'BLACK & SILVER' which is stated in the systems description....

-Offically the syneit alloy is described as ' Anthracite Gloss machined' whereas the 'knight' is described as 'black glossed'...........

-On Ebay uk, there are many listings for the 'syneit' alloy, the alloy being sold on each occasion is clearly the 'knight' alloys (black & silver)

-Over on pretty much every European (german, Spanish, itallian) polo 6R forum the 'syneit' alloy is show as the proper described alloy - Anthracite and silver. :?:

What a mess, what the hell is going on ? There seems to be no evidence at all of the proper described 'syneit' alloy within the UK, I have searched everywhere and everything is the 'knight alloy' full price when ordered intentionally as a 'knight' and unintentionally when ordered as a 'syneit' - Is this a geographic stock issue ? Do VW UK simply call the knight alloy 'syneit' in error, or because it is not stocked in the UK ?

To make things clear, I want the silver & black alloy which is supposed to be called the 'knight' - but wont pay the special part order price. I am looking to purchase the 'syneit' alloy, but will not be happy if they come as the official 'syneit' if that makes sense.

Do I order these from Volkswagen UK, and if they do not come as shown in the description image, or as described 'black & silver' by the parts manager ask for a refund?

Answers on a post card!

Official 'KNIGHT' alloy as fitted factory order (Gloss black & silver) But seems to be supplied as 'syneit' in the UK - and shown as 'syneit' on UK VW website.

Official 'SYNEIT' alloy as described as accessory part, but not shown in the product image - and only seen in Europe.

The grey & silver Syneits look great, but I'm not a fan of those gloss black ones. They look as if they've been painted by hand.

The Syneit wheels would look great on a Polo.
Whereas, the Knight alloys look like a Halfords Special. They just look so cheap IMO.

Personally I prefer the black and machined version as the contrast is better. But each to their own the Beetle has Black and Chrome BRM wheels which also look the business.
