Servicing cost?
Polo is now 4 years old (so now out of warranty) Just had a little reminder through the post from Vdub that it is now due a service next month. It's major service and it will also be due an MOT. They are quoting £299 for the service and £50 for the MOT. Now that just sounds a bit on the steep side to me. 1.2Tsi has no cambelt to change (Car has only done 14K anyway) What exactly do they do on a "Major" service to justify all but £300?? Has anyone used an independent VW specialist? how do they compare?

Re: Servicing cost?
Major is an oil service, plus any filters that need changing
It doesn't include brake fluid or brake disks/pads

Re: Servicing cost?
Shop around, VW wanted £379 for major service, hunted around and got it down to £210
Look around for a VW Specialist garage

Re: Servicing cost?
Genuine parts from tps cost me 33 quid, thats oil filter, air filter, fuel filter.
I got 5L of mobil1 fully synth oil from euro car parts for 40 quid.
Serviced the car myself, so all in cost me £73 in parts

Yeah, I was just sitting thinking and did a quick "finger in the air" gestimation! And thought even with genuine parts I'd be pushed to get to a £100. I have no idea what their labour rate is but I'd be surprised if there was more that 60-70 minutes work in it.saty wrote:Genuine parts from tps cost me 33 quid, thats oil filter, air filter, fuel filter.

Though I wouldn't do it myself, I'd happily let an independent do the work. The only thing is, the car had a paint fault that was rectified under warranty. Should it reoccur, if I had a book full of VW stamps they'd possibly look at the car more favourably, than something with "independents" Dunno I don't mind paying for quality work, but don't like being ripped off either.
Re: Servicing cost?
I get servicing from a independent 'VW specialist' - The owner served 25 years under UK VW and was a 'master mechanic' or something similar, he charges 40% less than VW.saty wrote:Genuine parts from tps cost me 33 quid, thats oil filter, air filter, fuel filter.

He uses genuine parts and from your pricing im quite happy to pay him £99 for a service, paying £27 labour.
Re: Servicing cost?
I'd ask what the dealer's hourly rate is and ask if you can provide the parts? Took me an hour to do mine and that was my first time servicing the car, could probably do it in less now I know how everything is put together
Im not sure if you have to be a mechanic to buy from tps, I used my uncle's account. But if you buy the filters from tps, the filters will be genuine and there shouldn't be any reason for the dealer to reject. Would still be way under the £299 quoted by the dealers even if they charge £100 per hour, and you'll keep your paintwork warranty

Re: Servicing cost?
Did you not get the book stamped? Thats one thing I'm concerned about, more than happy do it myself but worried value will drop when I Part Exchange or sell because the lack of stamps..saty wrote:Genuine parts from tps cost me 33 quid, thats oil filter, air filter, fuel filter.
