Can Voice activation be added afterwards?

Post by Doc_House »

Just pondering this as all the parts are present, wondering if it was a simple case of recoding and updating software or does something else need to be added?

You will need a microphone for it and connect it to your audio headunit. I'm not sure all of the head units support it though.

And, of course, code it.

The 6c has Bluetooth handsfree so in theory it's all present

Yep but the topic starter has a 2012 Polo so I guess it's a 6R :)

But, instead of retrofitting a microphone, buying a 6C is also a way to get voice activation :)

Except its a ripoff extra. Plus if you don't spec it you get a useless button on the wheel

Don't be deceived by the plate mine is a 2015 6c Polo SE with the Composition Media Unit - It's got Blue Tooth and Phone Kit so surely just a recoding job?

I believe it is all covered under the new VW system that stops retrofits. You need to get it added to the VW master server which then generates a code to activate the system. Not a simple VCDS tweak. Its the same reason you cant retrofit an oem discover system, as it needs activating.

Really? My parents have a '14 Skoda Superb, and it doesn't have proper 'voice activation', but the button on the steering wheel brings up the voice commands for the Bluetooth system. Unfortunately it's not a simple pass-through to the phone though, as I've always found modern phone voice control systems to be far superior to anything a car manufacturer has ever done, be they Siri, Google Now, or Cortana.
