'01 1.0L 6N2 A/C Performance

Post by TamerMetwalli »

Greetings everyone!

I have a '01 1.0L 6N2 5Dr. with a manual transmission and ~81000 km on it. I'm also in Egypt and the A/C is very important for me especially since the summer is rolling in. I need to get it working well.
I took the car to a few A/C specialists (over the last few years) where the only thing they did was recharge the system and the performance would improve. Unfortunately one time oil was added to the system (fearing oil leaves with the refrigerant) and I suspect that right now, there is way too much oil in the system given how it behaves. I have access to the VW workshop manual and as per the troubleshooting section of the A/C it does fall inline with my suspicions.

Why the thread? I am aware of the wanted section but I need guidance as well. I'm thinking of replacing the receiver-dryer and the expansion valve (with appropriate flush and evac) in the hope I could get it back to life. Right now, the system runs but is barely cooling when the weather is warm. I need to buy these parts from somewhere and most parts stores for VWs here I don't trust with something like this. I have the part numbers (to the best of my ability) and I need an online store/shop to buy them from. I am prepared to setup a package consolidation account with a forwarding service to ship the parts to Cairo, where I am.

Expansion valve:
662975A HFC-134a
521965 90 TXV
(seems to cross reference with 6N0820679A)

Receiver dryer:
6X0 820 191 A

So far bestpartstore.co.uk shows promise but only if I search for the part number (the catalog is confusing somewhat) and I get only "suitable for" parts that so vary from each other, I was thinking I would get a drop-in replacement. I am a DIYer also until I just can't do it alone (4 hands, equipment, etc..).

I have many other tiny issues with the car as well but I need to start with the A/C and perhaps the ball will get rolling from there.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Regards,

Welcome

You are best to potentially look somewhere like ebay for the part

IE:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Delphi-Air-Co ... 5b0820d8d2

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Delphi-Air-Co ... 20f211c813

I wouldnt think the expansion valve or the dryer has failed - replacement isnt very common. I would look at getting a full purge and recharge done and see how it goes from there

Its possible the compressor isnt working properly either.
