Post by stephguthrie94 »

Hey, am looking to change oil and spark plugs on my car and I can't seem to actual find a guide that has pictures that are up to date or work.
I am also not sure what oil to use and brand , engine is making a slight tapping noise, its 1.4 8v.

Any help is much appricated!

Thanks

hi steph

I would recommend you invest in a haynes manual for this model - its got lots of useful info in it, and covers this in full detail.

Oil you should use is 10W40 semi syntetic, though if its tapping a bit, you can use a 5W40 fully synthetic

Brand wise, castrol, fuchs, carplan or even halfords own is quite alright to be used so long as it meets the VW 500/501 oil standards

Best thing to do is find your local GSF/Euro Car Parts/Halfords and ask them for an oil filter and spark plug set for your car, and get 4 or 5 litres of 10W40/5W40 oil to go with it

Youll need a spark plug socket to remove them as they are specifically deeper than normal sockets.
