Evening all,
I'm looking to get the wheels off this weekend to properly give them a scrubbing, only thing is........ Where is the best place to put the stands beneath the car, also the jacking points don't exactly look like they are made of much!

Last time I jacked my car up I thought the points were made of cheese. Don't have axle stands so my life is in the hands of the jack and vw build quality
need to lower the car so could do with knowing myself where to put some stands

Get the jack all the way in under the frame (That's where you want to place your axlestands aswell)

From starting with no fancy bits of gear except trolley jacks, I'd make up a couple of wooden spreader blocks and place them on top of the trolley jacks and locate that at each of the 4-off points under the car where there is a maybe 2" diameter had plastic bung.
Next up stage would be to buy and fit Audi TT jacking point protectors in place of these 4-off plastic bungs, then all you do to lift each end/side is to place 2-off trolley jacks under these jacking point protectors, for placing axle stands, you would need to buy special axle stands that have a slot in them and some resilient padding to protect the paint surface at the 4-off side jacking points, and maybe spread the load a bit.
Next again stage up could be to buy 4-off Jackpoint jackstands, again use with 2-off trolley jacks. I seem to have worked myself up to this final stage as it suits all my cars.

Im guessing you mean these? These fit straight on the polo then? Would save bending the sills everytime I jack the car up

Yes these are the parts, might be slightly cheaper if you get them from an Audi dealer, that is where I got mine a couple of weeks ago, I can tell you what they cost tomorrow.

Audi TT jacking point protectors:- 8N0 804 583 + 8N0 803 855 you need 4-off each, total cost at Audi is £25.73 - so if you can reach an Audi dealer, you will save whatever Awesome charge on postage.

For me it's cheaper to get from Awesome and I need some H & R springs so will order together. Last time I jacked the car up it looked like the sills would crumble so a worth while investment to save damage

Thanks for the info all, I've finally managed to get around to ordering the points from Audi, should be in to collect tomorrow morning

Admittedly I've not ben under the car much but I couldn't spot any plastic bungs to remove on the underside of the Polo. (I can spot them a mile off on my uncles Jetta) Up to now I've resorted to your first suggestion and cut two wooden spreader blocks as lifting/mounting points.

Do you need to remove anything to get at the points they fit to. Or is simply a matter of finding the mounting points/ rubber bungs in the chassis members?? Do you have any images of them fitted in place?

No you should be able to see them all without removing any thing, one clue is that these hard plastic bungs have concentric circles moulded into them and I don't think that any other bungs have that!wolfie wrote:Do you need to remove anything to get at the points they fit to. A good tip is to use a jack with at piece of wood in between it and the mounting points to squeeze then together. You cannot do it by hand.
