Hi guys,

I had a problem with my gearbox heard a rattle when idle engage clutch and it goes away. So we put it down to a release bearing so we changed that and it was still there. So the box got took out and sent away to a specialist who refurbished the gearbox and a new clutch was fitted. A lot of money has been spent in this. I got the car back and I can still here a little rattle at idle but it's very very very faint. Any ideas or is this normal activity?

I thought forums were meant to be useful for people that were in need of help.

People can only help if they can provide information on your issue. Sometimes issues are niche and take longer to get a response

If the rattle goes away with the clutch down its got to be related either to the clutch release mechanism (including arm and bearing), clutch, or the gearbox

How would you describe the noise? Like a metallic rattle or something different. Can you record the noise?

It's a weird noise Alex, like a ticking when I got the gearbox back a new clutch was fitted and there was no noise for the first couple of days now it's slowly created back.

I would be tempted to take it back to where did the rebuild and demonstrate the ticking to them

I see

Perhaps a silly question, but it was a reputable garage wasn't it - they haven't just said they did the gearbox and fobbed you off....

It was a specialist who does lots of VW gearboxes mate. It could well be just a gearbox chatter!

Good. Just wanted to check as I know people that have had a 'garage' do the work, and it turns out they didn't do a thing!

It could well be gearbox chatter. Depends how noticeable it is really.

It's not that noticeable tbh, but was the exact same noise I heard before the difference pin popped out and smashed the casing. Just unsure if it is just a chatter or not!
