A few months back I started noticing that after washing my car the rear windows and seats were wet. Next time I washed it I was shocked to find that water was getting in through the rear door seals (both sides).
I took the car to my local dealership, and they told me that the seals weren't up as high as they should be and that they'd sorted them. A few days later I washed the car again only to find that water was still getting in. As it happened I had to take the car back to the garage (replacement CD changer had just come in to stock), so I asked them to check them again.
This time I was told that there was nothing more they could do and that this was how the seals were. I'm still not happy and am going to insist that they do something the next time I take the car in, but it has me wondering if anyone else has had similar problems, or if I just got lucky with the "Friday Job" again?
Are you using a pressure washer? They seem to be earning themselves a bit of a reputation for causing problems with water getting in where it shouldn't be.
m8 i have the fsi, and have the same problem, but i thot it was the back windows that were the problem, as everytime i wash the car the back windows get a condensation build up in the inside and the seats wet, also when i wind the back windows down, they dont always shut properly. vw have checked this for me and fixed both left and right sides, but the left still doesnt work twice after vw checked it.
In my car I have the same problem in the rear windows. The "sponge" in the top of the door get's wet all the time and this happen even if I wash my car only with a bucket and a cloth (so the high pressure water isn't the problem).

No, not at all, a sponge, bucket and a bit of back work is all I'm using.
So it would appear that it's more widespread than I thought.
I was planning on telling my dealership that I wanted both seals replaced if they were unable to fix them (which they'd had two previous attempts at), but I'm wondering now if it'd be worth it. I wonder if it's a known issue with the 5-door models?
i have a 5-door and the spongy surround on the inside of the windows gets wet every time i wash my car, but i'm sure it's condensation because it doesn't happen with warm water. i'm not getting any leaks through the windows by the way, only the water flows into the inner trim and down to the seats when i open the wet tailgate, instead of flowing through the water canals on each side
i get that too, i thot sum passenger didnt shut their window properly. after u have washed the car, put the rear ones down and let it dry, or else it will smell damp .
i use pressure washer too. , just dont direct it on the edges of the window!
One of my rear windows doesn't roll up nicely and easily comes down a little with only a slight brush against the winder. My 5 year old is often putting his foot against it and the next morning I find some rain has got in
Interestingly I also need a CD changer replacement - this is my 2nd replacement now. The first one just wouldn't play anything and this one is now crackling and hissing during play. Basically I think they're rubbish.

Mine was fine to begin with but it developed the annoying trait of getting lost "between" CD's... especially switching from the last CD on the stack to the first one. New one seems fine though, sounds good and plays everything I've asked of it so far.
Now the only problem with the sound system is one of the rear near-side speakers seems to have been damaged as the sound breaks up with medium to high amounts of bass. I was going to order a new unit from VAG-Parts but I'm not sure how much of a job it will be to fit it... I'll probably just live with it

From what I can understand these water leaks are on 5-door models so what I am about to say 5-door owners please egnor. However if you are still with me, my car had a water leak on the drıversıde wındow. Water was gettıng ın and makıng the back seats wet.
I phoned the dealer (Hayseldens) and they came down to Norfolk, pıcked the car up and sorted ıt.
The problem confused the hell out of me as I though ıt was the passenger sıde, but thınkıng about ıt may car ıs always parked on a slıght slope that caused the water to run to the passenger sıde.
The drıvers sıde passenger wındow had been replaced for some reason and not put back properly. The water was gettıng ın to the cavıty between outer and ınner body, fıllıng up a trough then when I went round a bend or ıt overfılled, ıt ran down ınto the passenger seat well.
That was my problem and how the dealer succesfully solved ıt.
I've heard about loads of peeps having probs with the cd changers. I've got the in dash one and have had no probs with it. Is it the in-dash one you guys have?
Reason I asked was I've had water running down the inside of my rear windows after washing the car with a pressure washer.
