Door electrical harness chafing question

Post by peajay »

My 2000 hatchback has been having strange uncommanded electric window opening which I suspected may be caused by the leads in the door harness due to the known chafing problem. I managed to get the harness out finally, what a job ! and found the black/white lead had a break in the insulation. I have repaired this with a short extension but I am wondering if this would really be enough to cause the problem I have been having ? Do I now need to check the passenger door for something similar or worse ?

It is possible to fix it without removing the harness by just pulling back the rubber flexible boot

Yes - quite likely albeit less wires in the passenger door
