GTi - RPM Hang ?

Hi,

Last few months, every now and then I am having an issue where the RPM's shoot up to redline when my foot is off the clutch and I am pressing accelerator. The car does not pick up speed and if I change up a gear to try and bring them down it does nothing, it sticks to redline.

It's happening when the traction control is off...and seems to happen for instance if I am in 3rd, waiting to overtake, I press down on clutch to get RPM's up then let off clutch to accelerate and overtake.

Anyone else had this issue? Or is it my poor driving.

you don't want to be pressing the clutch to build up the revs you need a lower gear

sounds like what you are doing is slipping the clutch which is really bad for it.

not sure if these cars still use the dual mass flywheel but that usually needs replacing at the same time as the clutch, and combined your looking a good few hundred quid for parts alone.
