HELP - Damaged her pride and joy

Post by prophet »

Hi folks
Managed to damage her indoors' pride and joy the other day. She ain't happy.

She took it for repair quotations.

First place said he'd knock it out and re-spray for £300.
Other three advised best to buy a replacement door and have it re-sprayed.

As I'm ignorant of the capabilities of repair shops I'd be grateful for advice from you guys.

Thanks
Prophet

I would go for a new door. You'll never get the crisp line back in the door if it's beaten and it'll be covered in filler

Appreciate the swift reply.

Have also considered getting it done on insurance.
£245 excess and protected no claims bonus. Would save hassle.

It would, but it will put your insurance up

My advice would be to try do it outside insurance if possible

Yes, did consider that but can't imagine that it would increase by more than 25% of existing £250.
Quotations for replacement door, installation and spray were around £600.

Difficult to see from the photos whether or not the paint has been broken or if any paint has been removed. If not, have you considered paintless dent removal (PDR)?

I picked up a small parking ding on my nearside rear wheel arch that some 'kind soul' inflicted on my car in a car park. I got it sorted by a PDR repair and you really can't tell it was damaged. Although it was only a small ding, good PDR operatives can work wonders with larger dents too. It will also be much cheaper and quicker than a conventional bodyshop repair.

The sill damage looks fairly nasty. PDR can't normally fix things like that

Yes, the damage is quite nasty as both door and sill paintwork have been broken unfortunately.
