Light Switch questions.

Post by haflidij »

Hey there im about to put my new R20 bumper on my polo 6R but i have a few questions regarding the ligh switch that is standard on my car.
My car didnt come with any front fogs so i have a few questions.
I currently have the switch with only the rear fog light option.

Question number
1.Do i need a new switch for the front fog lights to work that come with the new R20 bumper ?.
2. If i do, what switch do i want to buy ?.
3. Any partnumbers that i need to know when looking ?.

Also would be great if you guys could link me a switch :)
Thanks for reading. :D

If i do, what switch do i want to buy ? --> one that supports front and rear fogs

Any partnumbers that i need to know when looking ? --> 6R0941531G probably, but depends on your daytime running lights.

Nice thank you for answering so quickly.
I have just the standard headlights the H7 if i remember correctly. I found few but i only found one on ebay that has that exact part number with the G in the end. Most of them end with J. If i would buy one that doesnt end with a G is it likely it wont work ?.

The two main headlights with the H7 bulb.
Ill show you a photo of them so you can see.
But when the switch is on O the small W5W bulbs are on.

To maintain your current configuration and add fog lights, get the one with J at the end

Hey sorry i was going to say when you have the switch at O the headlights are on as you see on the photo i added. Not the W5W bulbs. I got confused for a sec.

I found this one but it seems a bit steep of a prize. Is this normal prize ?.
And would this one work ?.

It will not be plug and play. You need run wires.

Dependent on your equipment:

Option A with cornering lights, your BCM needs to support this
- One wire from Fuse 57 to BCM, white plug, position 11. Fuse value is 15A
- One wire from BCM, white plug, position 9 to the left fog light
- One wire from BCM, white plug, position 10 to the right fog light
- One mass wire for each fog light
Activation via VCDS is necessary: byte 12 bit 6 to 1, byte 21 bit 2, 3 and 7 set to 1.

Option B, simple fog lights without cornering light function
- One wire from Light switch pin 8 to Fuse 54, first hole
- One wire from Fuse 54 to each fog light. Fuse value is 15A
- One mass wire for each fog light
This needs not to be activated with VCDS.

You'll might not know how to do this. If you are not sure, it would be wise to go to an expert.

You can pick up a light switch on ebay for about £10.00 - same as the golf mk5/6.
