Driveshaft Boot for Aug '92 1.05 CL Coupe

Post by ictoanuk »

I am having great difficulty obtaining an outer driveshaft boot to fit the above car of my daughter's. All the ones I have seen at Partco and Halfords have been a minimum of 21mm diameter at the thin end (intended for a 24mm shaft) where it goes on the shaft itself but the diameter of the shaft fitted to this car is definitely 19mm. If the boot was a touch smaller than 19mm it would stretch over nicely but obviously it would not be wise to go for one that is too big. Has anyone come across this problem and if so how did you resolve it? I'm contemplating wrapping some tape around the shaft to make it a tight fit.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Have you tried GSF, VW themselves, or any VW / German car parts supplier? Halfords are crap for pretty much anything but oil / air filters and spark plugs :D And when it comes to the polo they cant sell you the correct stuff (including, sometimes, items included in the above) to save their lives.

Even Martyn in the VAGParts section of the forum might be able to give you a hand...
