Mk4 engine codes and power figures

Post by dubs »

has anyone got a list of different engines, codes and power output for all the petrol engines in the Mk4??

and did any polo come with rear disc's that could easily be swapped over to a Mk2?

Cheers

none came with rear discs, except possibly the mkiv gti.

you'll never find one of them, though!

the 16v had bigger discs up front. All of em had drums at the rear.

Hmm, there's a range of engines, 1.0, 1.3, 1.4, 1.6, and a range of powers that swapped halfway through the runs of things.

1.6 is 75bhp, 1.4 16v is 100bhp

the rest are 60bhp and less. anyone? anyone? anyone? bueller?

well i dunno bout the rest of them, but.....

early 1.0 and 1.3 engines shared with mk3 (and mk2...) so,

early 1.0 --- 1043cc --- 45hp @ 5200 and 55lbft @ 2800 (consider a 6n with this engine and an 8P box. then get out and walk, thereby overtaking :D)
early 1.3 --- 1272cc --- 55hp @ 5000 and 69lbft @ 3000-3400rpm

later 1.0 dropped in size but increased in power (MPi??)

something like
newer 1.0 --- 998cc --- 50hp @ 5400? and 60?lbft @ 3200?rpm

dunno bout the rest

I did see a bleedin' online spreadsheet somewhere basically covering all the normally-aspirated mk3 and mk4 engines somewhere... cant for the life of me say where though! (which is where the skeleton of the new 1.0 figures come from anyway)

if say i was to get hold of a rear ended mk4 with 1.4 16v 100bhp engine, would it be possible to swap the complete front end over to a mk2?? including dash, suspension brakes and wiring loom etc.....

ive decided that the engine in my polo is not worth bothering with, and the shells to good to scrap, want something to tear up the street in

there was something else but i forgot now
